The midfielder’s preference is reportedly for footballing reasons rather than financial, despite being among Newcastle’s highest earners. He is understood to believe that winning titles may not be achievable at Newcastle in the near future and wishes to pursue this ambition with Arsenal.
Despite Guimaraes’ expressed interest, Newcastle has not received any direct contact from Arsenal regarding his availability. The club maintains that until a concrete offer is presented, they have no decision to make. Newcastle is keen to retain the player and considers him not for sale.
Reports suggest that an offer around a certain figure would prompt Newcastle to consider a sale. However, Arsenal has yet to initiate discussions with Newcastle directly, with all communication so far reportedly driven through agents. Guimaraes, who will turn 29 later this year, wants to ensure that Newcastle receives a substantial fee if he departs.
Guimaraes signed a five-year contract extension in October 2023. He has been a key player for Newcastle since his arrival from Lyon in January 2022, making 153 Premier League appearances, scoring 30 times, and providing 26 assists. He was also part of the team that secured the Carabao Cup in 2025.

The Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) remains committed to Newcastle. The club’s strategic direction is to emulate models like Borussia Dortmund, bringing in young players and developing them, while still striving for titles and trophies.
Arsenal, meanwhile, is reportedly determined to secure Guimaraes. The Premier League champions view him as a valuable addition to their midfield, capable of partnering or providing an alternative to Declan Rice. Guimaraes, at 28, would bring experience to Arsenal’s squad, potentially offsetting the departures of other players.
Newcastle’s stance is that Guimaraes is invaluable to the team, and losing him, especially after other key departures, would be a significant blow. Guimaraes was part of Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad at this summer’s World Cup, starting every match before their elimination by Norway in the last-16.
