Sources indicate that Liverpool continues to value Jones at approximately £34 million. The club points to the inflated transfer fees observed across the Premier League this summer, including substantial moves for players like Elliot Anderson and Sandro Tonali, as justification for their valuation. While Liverpool is open to negotiations, they have made it clear they are unwilling to sanction a sale for less than £30 million.
Inter Milan is expected to submit a third bid for Jones. The Italian champions are reportedly prepared to increase their offer to around £25 million and could potentially go higher if necessary. Despite this, there is still a reluctance from Inter to meet Liverpool’s asking price of £30 million.
Jones’s considerations and Liverpool’s midfield plans
Jones himself is reportedly encouraged by Inter’s persistent interest. Sources suggest that the midfielder appreciates the continued pursuit from the Nerazzurri despite previous rejections and is open to a move to the San Siro this summer. Although Jones is prepared to compete for his place under Iraola, he reportedly believes his opportunities for becoming a regular starter would be greater in Milan.
This situation presents Liverpool with a significant decision. The club is currently comfortable with its existing midfield options if Jones remains at Anfield. As such, signing another central midfielder is not presently considered a priority. However, should Jones depart before the transfer window closes, Liverpool is expected to enter the market to find a replacement. The club’s strategy is clear: if Jones leaves, a new midfielder will be signed; if he stays, no new midfield acquisition is planned.
Jones made just 18 starts in the league last season under Arne Slot, with several of these appearances being out of his preferred position at right-back. This limited game time has led him to assess his options in pursuit of more regular play.
