London clubs pursue key signings as transfer window activity intensifies
The summer transfer window is seeing increased activity among prominent London clubs, with Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham all working on significant acquisitions. Arsenal are reportedly engaged in discussions for Julian Alvarez, while Chelsea are making moves for defensive reinforcements. Tottenham are also said to be monitoring a potential full-back signing.
Arsenal’s pursuit of attacking talent
Arsenal are reportedly back in talks with Atletico Madrid regarding a potential transfer for Julian Alvarez. The Argentina striker, who previously played for Manchester City, is understood to be open to a move to Arsenal if his preferred transfer to Barcelona does not materialise this summer. New contact has been made between the two clubs, though their valuations of Alvarez reportedly differ.
The club is aiming to complete a deal for Alvarez before pre-season training commences. This renewed focus on Alvarez comes as Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola is reportedly unavailable for transfer, despite previous interest from Arsenal. Sporting director Andrea Berta is involved in the negotiations, engaging with his former club.
In addition to Alvarez, Arsenal are expected to make a bid for Christos Tzolis. This move follows the confirmation of an agreement to sell Leandro Trossard to Besiktas, which is set to create a space in Arsenal’s Premier League title-winning squad. Reports suggest that Tzolis could be available for approximately £30m. The club also continues to pursue Morgan Rogers and Bruno Guimaraes, alongside young talent Andria Bartishvili.
Chelsea and Manchester United target defensive and midfield additions
Chelsea are reportedly making an offer for Alvaro Carreras of Real Madrid. This development comes amid ongoing efforts to sign Rayo Vallecano left-back Pep Chavarria. Chelsea has been actively pursuing Chavarria to address the void left by Marc Cucurella’s departure. However, difficulties in agreeing on a fee with the Conference League finalists may have led Chelsea to consider Carreras.
An initial approach from Chelsea to Real Madrid for Carreras was reportedly followed by an offer of around £21.3m. However, this figure is said to be considerably below Real Madrid’s asking price, which is approximately £42.6m. Chelsea is also pushing to sign Maxence Lacroix.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are looking to strengthen their midfield with a move for France international Manu Kone. The club has already welcomed Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos, as well as goalkeeper Karl Darlow. Tielemans joined Manchester United in a £35 million deal, signing a five-year contract after a release clause in his terms at Aston Villa was triggered. Manchester United had previously withdrawn from a deal for Ederson, who has since been offered a new contract by Atalanta.
However, Manchester United could face competition from Liverpool for Kone. Liverpool, along with Atletico Madrid, are also reportedly in contention for the Roma player, as Roma needs to make player sales. Manchester United is also set to formally announce the signing of Cristian Orozco next week, and is nearing completion of moves for Andrey Santos and Karl Darlow.
Liverpool’s transfer discussions and other club interests
Liverpool have reportedly held new discussions with Paris Saint-Germain regarding Bradley Barcola. The France forward has emerged as a key target for the club as they look to replace Mohamed Salah, having already signed Spain winger Victor Munoz from Osasuna. PSG is reportedly keen to offload Barcola, who is said to be interested in a move to Merseyside. This comes after it became clear that RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande preferred a move to PSG.
In other transfer news, Tottenham has reportedly entered the race to sign Neco Williams. The former Liverpool full-back, currently playing for Nottingham Forest, has previously attracted interest from Manchester United and Newcastle. Bournemouth has reportedly been offered Antonio Silva, a highly-rated Benfica defender who was previously linked with Real Madrid and Manchester United. Eduardo Camavinga remains determined to stay at Real Madrid despite ongoing speculation regarding his future.
Manchester City’s former Spanish boss Pep Guardiola is on the shortlist to become the new Italy manager after Paulo Maldini was appointed as the country’s technical head. Kurt Zouma has completed a transfer to Palm City FC in the United Arab Emirates. Brendon McCullum has been sacked as England’s Test coach, with Andy Flower being a leading candidate to replace him.
